I have a local (very old, bordering on ancient) guy do distributors on cars I restore or repair. My name is on his machine for when he no longer needs it if you know what I mean.

So progress is being made on the bike (just not as quickly as I had hoped).

Wiring is complete (but not yet tested)

Pushrods installed along with intake manifold and rebuilt S&S B carb. Had to buy a new intake manifold (FL now vs previous EL cylinders)

Added a Primo Rivera Pro-Clutch and got primary side installed

Have a question re: oil lines. My intent is to make solid lines. It's a custom build so the standard oil lines will not fit. Initially gonna ghetto-rig it to connect to rubber lines. But also going to fab some aluminum tubing that I can use as template and have stainless tubing made (have both but my hand tools will not do squat with the stainless tubing). Need confirmation on the tubing connection. I think it is 37 degrees? yes?

Last question for the day...as I was connecting oil lines I noticed that the return line and the vent line are different between my 49 EL and my niece's chopped '50.

My '49 EL

My nieces chopped '50 from initial delivery

Connections are reversed at the top. Bike ran fine the way it is pictured. Checked the oil bag and both holes go directly into the oil bag. Any issues with keeping the status quo?

If the lines both dump at the top inside then leave them as is and it'll look nicer not having them cross.

I checked them and they do, so I'll put the lines back the same way.

Well you get brave I have some new 3/8" stainless tubing and a decent bender I'll donate for the project. Can't help with that flare.

Thanks Dan. Got hold of a company called Royal Brass in North San Jose. They tell me that using hand tools for flaring stainless is like pissin in the wind. They have a machine they use. Figure I'll use aluminum tubing to get the correct bends and connections and take the pieces to them and have them done in SS. I have three lengths a buddy gave me.

Well, always learning something...The correct flare is actually 29 degrees

Looks like I'll be trying to find someone that can make what I need. Gonna be a bit different tho. I have a tool made by Mastercool that makes the flares and includes the 37 and 45 degree dies & cones. The guy that does my frame welding and who is repairing the cases for my 49 Pan Bobber is also a machinist. When I go to pick up the cases I'll hit him up to see what it would take to make up the die and 29 degree cone. In the interim I figure I''ll run some rubber lines and use clamps with crimp lines (I hate the worm gear type; I think they are ugly)
