If I can find a compatable remote I'll be more than happy to do a step by step w/pics.
I just can't find one that will work with the ancient door opener in my garage.
I think the fool thing was installed by Thomas Edison.

I sure hope you find one that works because I'd appreciate the help too. This sounds like a great mod., I've already got the switch ordered.

I understand the principals and that kind of installation isn't real hard to figure out.

The tough part is trying to find someplace to hide the remote or circuit board and how to connect it up.

Most remotes are non powered so hitting the button is really just connecting the battery to the circuitry.

The ones that use a 12V battery and that's good because then all you need to do is short the button opener switch and run a pair of wires to a convienient power source or the battery. Then hitting the button on the dash powers the remote up and sends the signal to open the door.

Any that use voltages lower than about 9V can't be directly hooked to the bikes battery or it will fry either instantly or the first time you try to use it.

They need to have some kind of resistor added to the power line to drop the voltage. Personally I would just use the battery it comes with, hooking the door button up to the dash switch and change that battery when it dies.

Default Garage door Opener

when i performed his mod on my own bike i used an extra remote that i had that came with the opener. i popped it open and checked for voltage when the button was pressed and door opened, i soldered wires to the two points and spliced them into my hi-beam indicator light. now with a flick of the hi-beam switch the door opens and i didn't spend the money Harley wants for a kit that does the same thing.

Here's a site with mini openers. I used the Genie MAT90 and it works well.

Hey Dan, have you had any problem with the adhesive on the chrome, seeing as the oil tank can get pretty hot? I really like how that looks...now I'm thinkin about addin it to my black'n'chrome...

Punk Rocker- I did this remote thing last year by busting open one of the remotes and silicone all over and sticking it under the voltage regulator almost under the frame. I never had an issue with rain or anything....just an idea

I wonder if you guys could fill one with acrylic, like they do for some electronics.
