Thanks but... What the hell is snow....? They dont have that here on Oahu...I celebrate Xmas on the beach with a BBQ...
The hash marks are for each time a person/animal has been injured/killed by my bike. Which reminds me, I ran over someones cat the other day...gotta get the paintbrush out and fix my count.
Its a wonder they don't hear you coming with your setup your count probably won't increase much with those flappers banging around
My Heritage bags are just starting to take on a shape of their own after about 4 years. This winter when I retire, and need all the small projects I can get, I'll install one of the insert kits we see advertized. In the meantime, I found some old couch cusions, and removed the 4" foam rubber. I cut & trimmed it oversized to fit the inside the bags snugly, and cut a piece to dome up the lid, & closed them up. They have a like new shape now, and since I never carry anything in the bags anyway, they'll hold the new shape until I can get the inserts put in. If I need to carry anything in the bags, I'll just jerk the foam out.
LocoPilot750,
If your handy with wood or sheet metal work maybe you could make an insert box to fit the bags and use a thin layer of foam on the outside to puff out the leather.
That should help them keep their shape while still allowing you use them.
Probably not as nice as the fancy (and expensive) bag inserts, but it would be cheaper.
It would also give you something to do with your 'extra' time off.
"Anything you can do, I can do better" Please GTFU
Wow! I have been looking for some DIY mods. 6 kids, wife n mortgage, my bike has taken a backseat when it comes expensive mods. I have gotten a bunch of great ideas from here that I will be incorporating this winter. That being said......This is an informative and enjoyable way to pass the time, but many of you are getting hung up as "subject matter experts" (SME). Just because you may be better than the next guy at a particular skill, let it go, unless it is a safety issue. Most of us are a bunch of "knucklebusters" just trying to get by and make do with the limited skills and cashflow we posess. So please quit, hammering on the next guy cuz he didn't do something the way you would. It makes fo ra poor read, especially when it gets into a pissing match of sorts. Thanks again for all the idears, keep em comin!!
Yeah, good ideas don't always come with the best fabrications. I'll take a dressing down any day if it gives me a better methodology. But yeah, don't be nasty or smug about it. YOUR idea may have improvements on it.
