the saddle off today after a ride, I noticed that the ECM tray at the front of the rear mudguard (fender) is letting cr*p get on to the electrics.
There are holes where the units clip on to it, plus a gap all round.
So, off it came & was cleaned up.
Then I got crafty with some gaffa tape. The holes were covered up (from the underside) and then using three strips bent over on themselves but leaving about four inches of 'sticky end, I stuck on a sort of mud-flap.
This hangs down in front of the gap at end of the front of the fender, in front of the back tyre.
Hopefully that should stop the worst of the crud getting at the electrics under the front of the ECM tray as well.
The set-up of that area doesn't seem a good design at all....

You're on an XL, so I'm not sure...but a bud with a Yama, styled after the Heritage pretty much, had issues with his voltage reg back there and mods he did - there was a huge heat issue with it, and it turns out that the leaky air in there was for cooling.
Just something to think on there.
Now you got me wanting to inspect mine.
ACE FREAKIN HARDWARE For The Win!
I was AMAZED at their bolt, screw, nut, fastern selection.
If your luck is like mine, the closest one to you is an old fashioned mom and pop joint... they didnt have em... but the newer fangled store 10 miles away has a massive fastener section. Grade 5, Grade 8, Stainless, and... depending on what bolt you need they have a chrome "chevy" section.
The Ace near me has a nice chrome selection, gonna hit it tomorrow after reading this thread....
