The Sundowner is not what I would consider significantly different compared to the stock seat in terms of shape or comfort. And it still has those exposed mounting nuts that will be bothering you once you slide a bit to the back of the seat. It may be fine for some riders, though.
Sundowner is not meant to be used with the stock passenger pillion, refer to HD website. Really would be good if you knew what you were talking about before you posted your "facts"

It has more of a cup for your rear and doesn't feel like you will slide off the back. Also I have never once felt the two screws on mine, maybe you guys have a bit larger butt, however I think this is probably because of the extra padding, that has never been an issue with mine. Try one out and I bet you will agree.
Thanks for the clarifying post chris. As usual "know it all's" who do not even have or who have never tried the seat post their useless 2 cents. People then read their crap and think its the truth. Thanks Chris good post on the Sundowner, I also an owner of the seat and passenger pillion agree with your assessment.

Chris, thanks for your comment. As I said it may be fine for some guys. I only wanted to point out that the Sundowner you referred to is as much a solo seat as the stock rider (solo) seat...no more, no less.

In fact I tried one at my dealer and I personally didn't like it. That and the mounting bolts were the reason why I went with a 'customized' stock solo seat.

@HenryT....why don't you just do as you recommend and keep your "useless 2 cent" to yourself and chill

yeh I did not find much difference with the stock seat vs the sundowner version- I ended up buying a donor stock seat off ebay, modifying the seat pan and having it reshaped / covered. although I kept the 2-bolt system since I need it for the passenger pillion. the bolts never bothered me if I was not sliding off the back of the seat. I'm presently looking for some nicer black bolt caps, saw the mustang ones and there is a "six shooter" variant of them on ebay- but chrome only. no love for guys with the black bikes. lol.

When I got home last night I took some photos comparing the two seats, including one with me sitting on it. The Sundowner dips down a bit more, in the photos it is on the bottom or the left (on the bike). I think I have never had the problem of feeling those nuts because if I would slide back that far it looks like the leather and padding would fold down on top of them. Also I like the look of the wider Sundowner seat compared to the stock. In my opinion it was a well worthwhile purchase, plus extra padding never hurts...

Man, I was wondering what you guys were talking about, sliding off the seat, as I had never experienced this before, but I have 2 pairs of pants I wear, rain pants, when it's raining, and I don't go hard on the throttle in the rain, and my jeans.

Wore a pair of cheap army camo pants to work today on the bike, and god damn, just about fell off the bike on the first acceleration, slid right onto the rear fender!

That seat sure is more comfy due to it's wider seating area and added padding....BUT I won't put that (IMO) bulky and ugly looking seat on my bike. But hey, to each his own. If you like it that's great!

I still want to know if anyone's tried the mounting bolts HC used in this thread as a way to support the passenger pillion in the up position. Anyone?

If you wanted to put the rear seat back on, do you need to reapply a new paint protector?

If you want to put on that pillion frequently I would recommend to use either a protective sticker on the fender or to "glue" a thin layer of felt to the bottom of the seat's base plate. I know there are some guys here who don't like the idea with the felt but for me it worked out fine so far. You'll need to carefully keep that felt free of dust etc.

Not exactly a flush fit but I used a pair of headbolt covers with the HD motor co logo on, think it looks quite nice.
