Can any tell me what the Fat Mini-Apes really measure? Can anyone tell me what a set of 17" Evil apes really measure?
Help!!!

Looking for a second Harley, I have a '14 Iron that I put a 1250 Hammer kit on. Don't want a Touring bike at all, but something a little bigger would be cool. I'd be keeping the Sporty, she's a blast to ride, just looking for a second bike with a little different style.
Are there things about the Breakout you don't like? The Breakout is really the only Softail that has my eye, I love the style. The lean angle is the only thing I'm concerned about.. how big of an issue is that? It seems significantly less than most Harley's, is it that dramatic on the road?
Thanks guys

Specifically:
1. Front fork suspension is too soft and dives too much. it also compresses too easily under load, e.g. cornering, and reduces your clearances. it also makes for some religious experiences if you hit bumps in the corner. It also makes fast braking less effective. Easy fix- Replace the fork springs with Race Tech and put in some Ricor or Race Tech dampers. Huge, massive improvement. $400 range - See sticky in Softail section.
2. Stock dunlop tires are terrible. They don't grip very well and the face profiles are too flat. makes for floppy slow turns and more effort to initiate any turn, and not a good stable feeling in the turns. The back tire breaks loose sooner than it should. Fix: put on a set of Pirelli Night Dragons. Front will change to a 120/70/21 instead of the too-wide 130. $400 range
3. Also remove the footpeg feelers, they unscrew. these drag way too early in corners. $free
You do these three things, your BO will be a very fun bike to ride even when pushing it, will turn very well and it will stop a lot sooner / more safely. Everything else you do to it on top of that will be gravy.
I was actually contemplating getting rid of my BO before I did these upgrades as a "last effort" - I'm glad I did. I'll never sell it now.

I know of one person that bought the BO - Sunk tonnes of $$ into it, then sold it because of cornering.
If you like to ride aggressively and are not willing to do all the stuff LA Dog mentions, you should think twice. Just go rent one for the day and find out for sure.

Really, only you can answer whether or not it fits your needs and desires. If you want to look like a bad a$$, this is the bike for you. If you want to ride like Rossi, no amount of tweaks are going to get you there (of course neither is a Harley for that matter).

The upgrades i suggested will only get rid of a magnified issue that (IMO) should not be there, and it's certainly not present as much on other FXS bikes- but don't expect more from these upgrades than just getting the bike back to riding like it should. For about the cost of a set of pipes it's hands down a worthwhile upgrade for the BO. My main reason for doing it was safety especially with the wife on the back, this was not a "performance minded" mod. The nice thing is though, that is about the only negative thing I can find about the Breakout. I absolutely love everything else about the bike.
