OK, how'd you fix it? Before taking off this morning, I discovered that the lever on my bike's ignition switch was sliding off. I tightened up the set screw and took off ... without checking to see if I could still lock the ignition. Well, I got to where I was going and then I discovered that I could not lock the ignition any more.
So I get back home and even with the stupid lever off the switch I can't lock the damn ignition.
I think I might've f'd the switch up completely.
Same happened to me, went to turn off ignition after ride out and **** was missing. Luckily had fell onto top of primary, refitted nice and tight now the lock won't turn. Has anyone managed to fix this problem ?
I went through the same thing on a long trip but didn't find it. The dealer replaced it under warranty and my key wont turn either. I had my bike flashed to bypass the ignition switch anyways while on the road. I think you might have the set screw too tight.

Slackened off set screw but still won't turn, but can live with it for now

I couldn't fix the switch that I messed up. I had to replace it.
Really cranking down on that little set screw crushes something inside the switch ... jams it up real good, lol
I posted this as well on a blackline thread (same part on that bike). Problem is the replacement part number for the **** is 71796-11, but HD decided to discontinue this $17 part and now you have to buy the entire switch assembly for $200 just to get the ****. Ridiculous. I wrote a formal complaint letter to the mothership in Milwaukee. I lost mine somewhere on a highway in Idaho. Old stock has been depleted from any dealerships out there. If you call HD customer care they will tell you there are three dealers that have them. Trust me they don't. Guys I talked in parts said they average about 5 calls a month asking for that part. Smells like a recall. This problem has existed for years on the blackline as well. I guess for $200 I might as well just get the smart security system for $150 more and be done with it.

I'd get a DK Custom coil relocation kit for about $90. Go to the dealer and have them change your ignition to FOB only. That way, all you have to do is hit the switch on your right controls to "RUN" and the bike is ready to start. It would work just like a CVO Breakout.
All this is considering you have a FOB unit on your bike. It would get rid of the fugly grenade too.

Mine just fell off the other day. Typical money-grubbing HD mentality....produce a crap design, design issues result, make replacement part obsolete, make fix 10x as expensive. Filed a complaint with HD after calling the ONE US dealership that HDNET says had the **** in stock. Nope....parts guy knew before I finished asking.
This is crap. I started riding HD's at age 10, 60 this year. A lot has changed but then again....little has changed.
Anyone found a fix outside of replacing entire switch? Don't have the security system. Any help appreciated.
