Default Oil use after rebuild

I just bored my sg out to a 103 and did headwork and I have 1250 Kim’s on it now and it runs great but I had to add about a cup of oil today to top it up is this normal?

It could of just filled some air pockets in lines or something I wouldn't be concerned yet. Break in time is over for the most part, but u could work it threw the gears to try to make it seat the rings if the didn't.

Do smoky burnout. Post video. Check oil after a few hundred miles.

===========================

Doing that doesnt properly load the motor to best seat rings.

You have to load the motor and a good way to do that would be to find a long steep hill/mountain grade and hit it @ WOT thru 2nd,3rd and then 4th gear too if you dont mind higher speed for a good cause and them then let off throttle to let compression slow the bike down and then repeat that process 2x-3x.

If he doesnt have any hills/mountains in his area he can do the same process to help seat the rings on a flat straight road with little to no traffic.

But doing burnouts jn 1st or maybe even 2nd gear doesnt load the motor enough to properly/best seat the rings.

This is a variant of the method that the best mechanics I've ever known use to break in engines. Spot on.

OP, it is not at all unusual for newly rebuilt engines to use a little oil. Just pay attention for a while.

Scott, I did not expect the OP to take my comment to heart...

The gist of the comment was as Veekness said, it’s common to use some oil at first until things settle in.

And if this does not work just like all wrenching. You will have to dismantle it and see if you did something wrong. Doing it twice is far better than running it with something installed wrong. I have done many repairs more than once. School of hard knocks.
