Default Truth about crank shaft run out?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Here is a four part series of videos on Harley crank shaft run out, particulary as it pertains to the twin cam 96 that should help to parlay all of the fear and hype being thrown around about inferior crank shafts in these engines. This is someone that makes sense and is not talking from a "I've been screwed by Harley perspective"
If you are somewhat mechanically inclined its pretty easy to understand what he's saying. He chooses his words carefully as to not offend anybody, either his peers, the average mechanic or Mother Harley. He has a smooth way of drawing a logical conclusion on the crank run out issue. See what you think.

Default Interesting Not one?

Interesting, not one comment on the video despite the unrelenting comments in earlier threads about how bad the OEM cranks are and how Harley is deliberately making a POS crank to screw people and force them into a new bike immediately following the expiration of their warranty! HMMMMM, Not even a comment from any experienced engine builders insisting that the cranks are all junk and must be replaced or welded and trued at their shops before SHE"S GOING TO BLOW SCOTTY!

I didn't hear anything that had to do with all of those tolerances in relationship to the bearing mounting surfaces of the engine case. It seems the machining of the case should have at least some affect of how the crank shaft runs.

For those of you that still do not get it.These new cranks are Okay just no conducive to being rebuilt. Not conducive to huge horserpower. The very reason why the aftermarket will stay strong, for a long time to come.If they can survive this horrible time we are living through.

Thank you for posting this. I found it very informative and cleared up some confusion I had on this subject.

i personnally feel that the cranks that come stock in the 88 twin cams are strong enough to handle modest 95 builds with wiesco flat tops and s&s 570 cams and some modest head work with out even having to worry about the run out.but if i were to build with more displacement i would definetly have a balanced stroker crank that would handle the power with ease.
