skratch...I put the lock nuts on ran them down all the way and then put the rod end bearings on and ran them down all the way. The rod was still about 1 & 1/2 inches longer than the original rod length. Rather than adjust both levers on the splined shaft, I threaded the rod further down the shaft length and made it conform to the original rod length with the original fittings attached. That way I didn't have to adjust the levers at all...
If you cut off that shaft there IS no pigeon toe effect - the toe shifter will be in the exact same place as stock.
All you did is move the lever outboard farther exacerbating that pigeon toe thing.
it feels pigeon toed to me. if you want to call it something else, go for it. in any case, i personally like the shifter peg being moved outboard that extra 3/4'', i don't feel like i'm twisting my foot to the right as much. did i mention that i do have the floorboard extenders as well?

there's more than one way to do it. if you want to do it that way, great. i didn't have a tap and die set to cut threads, so it was easier for me to just take off the lever and move it a spline or two..... heck, some folks don't even put locknuts on the shift rod. not like it can go anywhere.....
I used Skrath's fix. I had to order the heim joints at granger and I got the bolts at lowes. They did not have the acorn nut. Got that at the local Harley repair shop.
Went to the HD dealership and they wanted $90.00 for the chrome shift kit. Forget about it.
Update on the fix. The heim joints would not work on the standard shift rod. I even got another standard shift rod and it did not work as well. I paid 11.00 each for the heim joints at grainger. I think I am going to take them back and just order a shifter linkage from Landmark or Kuryakyn.
