i installed my new +4 clutch cable. I have not attempted to put it on the lever and install on the bars, because there is barely any slack at the end of the cable. I have the adjusters collapsed into each other and have maybe 1/4-1/2" of play at the end, which is not enough to feed into the perch. I really dont know what to do, I dont think playing with the screw in the primary will do anything.
I want to just pull the cable until it creates slack, but dont want to damage anything. this is really pissing me off.
They appear to have sent you the wrong cable....send it back to whoever you bought it from and tell them you need to standard 3 1/2" Harley clutch pull slack. Don't do anything else to it where they can say it's been used.

see what really pisses me off about it is that i bought a set of bars and a cable from a forum member...the clutch cable he sent me was for the wrong year. i dont blame him or myself, it was a miscommunication and i did not know the clutch cables changed in 08. i went to the dealer and was bullshitting with the guy and explained to him what happened, and he says, "we get people all the time that come in here with those kind of problems. thats why you should always buy from us because we know what you need." apparently not, and now i have to wait through another weekend without my bike...
i tried searching the part number on the order. Magnum Shielding SC2HE38601-89 +4. Magnums website is not the greatest IMO, they have no searching capabilities. all that turned up in a google search was the product for sale at other websites.
i hate raising hell in a dealership, but this little punk that i talked to was pretty arrogant about the dealer always being the way to go.
now i feel like an idiot...the part number in the drag specialties book is 0652-1049. i cross referenced on magnums site, and it's the correct cable he ordered.
now back to my original question...why is there no slack at the end?
So what was wrong?
This way if it ever happens to one of us we have a heads up in what to look for.
Took it apart and followed the instructions. Started at the bars this time, not at the tranny cover which i did originally. Just rushing and screwed up the order. Rookie mistake!
So that's how ya do it eh? Those Magnum cables are a pain and I always just use a pair of pliers and pull the thing out at the perch end and get it all put together that way.
Glad you figured it out. I havent found the owners manual to be my best friend, it causes more questions just becuz of how devoid of detail they are. Ive been able to do things I woulda never attempted by finding youtube videos. Those coupled with member threads and occassional member PMs I have done some pretty cool mod's never attempted before. The bushings from Barnett is something everyone should have on- hand should the stock cable stretch ofter breakin which it did with mine. If Magnum's cable does the same ( i hope they use a better quality cable) I will have the shim.
