Most of the dealers I've bought bikes from have told me that the most important service is the 1000 mile service. It is certainly easy enough to do with a service manual; however most dealers (the three I've bought bikes from in the last 4 years anyway) consider the 1000 service important to keeping the warranty in tact.
None of the dealers said "if we don't do it, you're warranty will be void", but they strongly suggest letting them go through and make all the appropriate adjustments.
I let the dealer do my 1000 mile service, then I usually take it from there unless there is something I don't want to do or don't feel comfortable doing.
My reason for asking is I have synthetic motor oil, trans fluid & primary fluid that I want to use. Just don't. know weather stealer will us the fluids I give them for the (1,000) service or just put in the crappy harley stuff and say they did it with my oil. Not all that sure about the dealer I use (Vehicle City, Flint Mi.) ???

My dealer was pretty cool about my providing my own oil for my 1k. I have always used Mobil 1 and they put that in for me.
Do it yourself because it is critical that its done right because of coming off the breakin....don't trust dealership with a critical and crucial service......it will set the tone for the life of that motor if some young ' piece work' moron does it wrong.
