I don't see any mention of anyone replacing the cam bearings. This is a must when you are changing cams and the proper bearing removal and install tool are also a must for this job. While these engines are pretty simple there are still a few speciality tools required over and above a handful of basic hand tools.

 

Well yes you need to change the bearings. He bought the bearing removal and install tool. Works slick as snot!

 

Just completed the project late last night / this morning. Started right up and was making some ticking / knocking but settled down after getting to temperature. Idled good too.

I used FM pushrods with the OEM pushrod tubes. What a pain in the *** getting the push tube clips back on.

Also installed the Axtell oil bypass w/ zippers tensioners
