I traded in my 18 FLSL for an 18 FLHCS.

They both use the same rear tire.

I calibrated my FLSL odometer and speedometer to my GPS. After I calibrated, the bike's odometer was only off 0.1 miles after riding 100 miles. That is accurate enough for me!

My FLHCS shows the same error that my FLSL did before I calibrated it. Basically, it is 2MPH fast, or more accurately, 5.3% fast.

I use a DJ PV to adjust the odometer/speedometer.

So I'm curious if anyone else noticed the speedometer/odometer error on their bike?

Here is an easy way to tell, if you have a GPS:

The bike will tell you 55MPH is at 2000RPM in sixth gear. The GPS will tell you it is really at 2090RPM.

More data:

60MPH Bike=2180RPM GPS=2270RPM
65MPH Bike=2360RPM GPS=2450RPM
55MPH Bike=2540RPM GPS=2620RPM

Thanks!

I have a Garmin 595 lm GPS and it is always about 2 MPH slower than the speedo (for the 2018 FLHCS). Not sure which one to believe. If the speedo is reading high, I'm curious if the odometer is also reading high. I have not yet run a test comparing mileage of the GPS and the odometer.

How are you getting RPM's out of the GPS? What kind of GPS do you have?

I use the RPM readout on the speedometer on the tank. I use the cruise control to hold the speed really steady so I can get a good reading.

The odometer is linked to the speedometer so the real measurement is the odometer. The speedometer is derived from the odometer reading. In the Power Vision tuner it is something like "pulses per 1/25 KM" or something.

See the attached picture. The stock value is 2063. I use 2172.

To be extra sure, I rode 150 miles and used the mile markers to see how far I was off. It was within 0.2 miles when I did that.

I made a mistake or two and I probably didn't make my message clear enough so here is another try.

The bike speedometer says:

55MPH = 2000RPM
60MPH = 2180RPM
65MPH = 2360RPM
70MPH = 2540RPM

But the GPS says:

55MPH = 2090RPM
60MPH = 2270RPM
65MPH = 2450RPM
70MPH = 2630RPM

Let me know if that makes more sense!

Yup.... In both tests you're getting RPM from the digital display of the speedometer. Thanks.

Mine reads high also - both odometer and speedometer. Pisses me off that HD deliberately calibrates these things to read too high. It means my odometer shows more miles on the bike than actual. Is it a lot? - no, but but it's a shitty thing to do and ought to be as illegal as deliberately taking miles off the odometer.

I don't think I want to shell out $599 for a PV. I've tried to find other ways to re-cal the speedometer but haven't come up with any. I have an SE Street Tuner, but of course, it doesn't have this feature. Anyone know of any other way to fix this?

there's a recent post on those... mostly regarding the installation.
