Back to work: removing lifter covers and gaskets. Those lifter covers were stuck on pretty well so I tapped them loose with a rubber mallet and a short piece of wood - careful, when they do let loose, :
Leave the bolts in, just back them off a bit, then tap the covers loose. No flying parts!
Goes by many names..rtv silicon . comes in black, blue, gray (for metrics? ha) . They even have it red for hot applications. Not for the block split.. Unlike older permatex for cast iron, it peels off aluminum.. Look it up in Wikipedia..Would put a thread to it but I am out of the country and it will not work for me...

alan did I just ready "darkhorse and timkin conversion" awesome man!!!! Gonna be a badass solid foundation to stack everything on top.
You think you'll maybe do gear drive now since darkhorse is making your bottom end solid(free up some HP ).
Hey HD Bobber, yeah I had posted a thread over at HTT Forum about my run-out and had a lot of guys say I'm OK but a lot of guys said fix it. So it ate at me, so when my local Indy said he would help me get it split and shipped out, I narrowly went that direction. After all this effort, I decided to do the Timken too - don't want to go here again so do it well once.
No plans for gears, have my chain 590s ready to go.

In the long run they are right. Now you probably will never have to play with the bottom end again. That is unless you loose a wrist pin clip in the case...
That's awesome man. Same thing I thought "get it there get it done and never worry about it again." Took a bit over 2 weeks to get my stuff back from darkhorse.
