Acids on aluminum? That sounds corrosive! I polish a lot of stuff; even mill stock, like my oil cooler, and I think it's the combination of metals in the aluminum at fault. I've seen fatboy wheels chromed and they're beautiful.
Yes sir. I used to haul rock and that's how we cleaned our aluminum wheels. You spray it on and it pulls everything off the wheel. Dirt, grime, grease and the like, then you go back with the polish of your choice. I don't remember the brand we used at our shop but it gave the aluminum wheels a mirror finish. I'll have to do my wheels and post pics. It may not work, like you say, could be how the wheels are made. I'll give it a shot tho!
Off topic, how's the dark side? I've been reading about it quite a bit and getting mixed reviews. What ct would fit my fatboy? 03 with the factory centerline.
"Mixed" is coming from lots reading. I'm still getting used to my bike but everything I've read from darksiders is positive. Lots of naysayers, the old man included. Lol! He ran ct's back in the day but hasn't since the late 80's, when he could afford to run mt's. My tires are lookin good so I think I'm gonna ponder a bit more on it. I'm pulling all the aftermarket chrome and junk off, going for a more basic look and i like the looks of the ct. Not to mention all the positive reviews from the darksiders. Thanks for the info, ride easy!
Tryus had asked me to share this with all the members of the forum so here you go guys... any questions, feel free to ask...
So i did this security system to my previous bike and it cost me somewhere around $35 to do. Its a tilt sensor that will sound when your bike is raised up from the kickstand when armed. Its a great system to stop the old pick up and go crimes. Now i havent done this to my sporty yet since i havent figured out the best place to mount everything so its out of sight but i wanted to post this anyways because im sure one of you guys could figure this out.
Heres the link to my squidoo write up that i did after installing the system. Everything you will need for the system is included on that page. Just make sure you are aware that this isnt a system to leave on for a long period of time since it does constantly draw from the battery. Its meant to be an overnight or quick public stop alarm.
I am sure that this is been posted a 1000+ times but... It was a free lay down license plate bracket mod that I was pretty proud of. All it took was the stock license plate bracket, hammer, dremel, and a cordless drill. All I did was beat the hell out of the bracket that the has the holes that bolt to the fender flattening it out. Bolted it back on and it was done.
Here is something I did when I changed my bars. This is a couple of bits of flexible shower house from the hardware. Hides the cables nicely.
Thanks for the hint. I did the same. Started with a used metal hose from my job to see if it was doable. I then went to Home Depot and bought two each for $25 and then began the project. I really like the outcome and only wish it came in red.
For me, I'd have run them up side by side to just below the bars. Some clear or black wire ties and one at the top, following the lines of the metal. I bet you'd like it more.
