Thanks for the quick replies guys. Yeah the vampire clamp is what was provided with the kit, there is an optional proper connector that you can order for the kit (that I didn't know about until I got it). Maybe ill order that and do it the proper way. The accessory (plug) is it that grey Deutsch one?

yes yes, I am a noob

Ill post pics of the few mods I did once it's all buttoned up
-HD swing arm bag
-reflector removal
-Rokform iphone 6 mount
-Cycle sound series 3 (black)

24V has the best suggestion by using that plug. here are the part numbers you can get these at any HD dealership- this plug fits all the newer bikes not just Breakout.

The connector housing you need is part # 73156-96BK about $2
The pins that go in the housing for each wire are part # 73191-96 (you'll need two pins) - about 75 cents each

you can pull ground from this connector as well- black wire. you'll also need a small relay, and as 24V mentioned, use the blue wire from the connector to trigger the relay only. the main power for your speakers will come from the battery terminal, and be switched on / off by the blue wire applying power to the relay when you turn on the ignition.

Use one of these 12v high current micro relays- very good, small and easy to stash somewhere. I use these all the time.

When doing electrical on motorcycles there are two rules:
1. ALWAYS solder wire connections.
2. ALWAYS cover with heat shrink.

Pick up a cheap soldering iron (pencil style) from radio shack, along with their super-thin silver wire solder. Using very thin fine wire solder is much easier to use. Autozone / pep boys or your local electronics mom-n-pop store has heat shrink fairly cheap.

Relay Hookup:

run a 12v wire from battery + to pin 30 on the relay, this wire should have a fuse on it between the relay and battery (10a should be fine)
run a ground wire from chassis (or black wire from connector) to pin 85
run blue wire from connector to pin 86
run a wire from pin 87 on relay to the 12v input of your speakers, this wire should have a fuse on it
connect ground lead from speakers to chassis or to black wire from connector

@LADog,
Looks great brother! I finally had to rent a Breakout today to test ride one. Dealership got the only one in Vegas in last night and it sold last night. They are reimbursing the rental cost if I buy. The riding position took a little getting used to but it wasn't bad. I am a tall guy at 6'4" so I might consider putting some risers on to get a little more upright. Do you have the forward foot controls on yours?
The other thought if my back can't stand it is some Apes or the CVO handlebars. I rode for about 2.5 hours and was fine once I adjusted my seating position. It handles a lot better than I anticipated. The other option I am considering is a Triumph Thunderbird Storm. Serious power stock on there and a more upright position... I just don't like the look as much. And really Harleys are infinitely customizable.

One thing is I think the stock light just looks too small... but I can't find a good looking 7" bullet style bucket to put the JW Speaker 8700 Evo 2 lamp in. Anyone have suggestions?

Finally with the forward foot controls is that something that is only Arlen Ness, or can I get the set up and put on different pegs (I like the HD Skull ones.)

Hope everyone is having as good a weekend as I.

Cheers,
Dave

The Ness kit provides a metal plate to move your foot controls forward. It also includes an extended brake line and shifter linkage.

So your answer is You can still use the Willie G skulls.

If you do not want to splice into the Harley plug you will need a few parts from Harley Davidson in order to complete the job - the other side of the plug, a few connectors and the crimping tool to put it all together. I do not have those part numbers. I did something a little different. I used to be into automotive electronics. I had another style of plug handy (both sides), so I cut the Harley plug off and wired my own plug in. I wired the Primo wiring into the other side of the plug. Done. I can't imagine ever having to un-plug that plug ever again, but if I have to I can.

I wired mine as "signals only" - no more front running lights. I figured that the white LED's would just drown the amber LED's out anyhow, so why bother? With the headlight LED's on, the signal LED's are bright enough. You can see them flashing.

One glitch I should mention ... when the signals are activated, the indicator in the speedo flashes fast - like it would for a blown incandescent bulb. The signals themselves flash at a normal rate.
OK, thanks for the clarification, but that is not plug and play, is it?

May sell it locally and wait for a visitor to bring me a Daymaker then.

Hey Dave- Thanks and congrats on your upcoming 2-wheel purchase. If you go with the Breakout, being tall, I'd probably suggest getting the seat redone so you sit lower and a couple inches back. Danny Gray and Bitchin Seats make some nice options (there are others too but this if off top of my head) - or, just have a local upholstery shop re-work the stock seat. You'll pick up the extra couple inches easy that way- it's a bit of a pain to change the handlebars due to internal wiring. Just a thought.

Take off the front peg "feelers" by unscrewing them from the pegs, you'll stop scraping so easy in turns.

I'm 6'4", 36" inseam, 255lbs, loooong arms. The Danny Grey seat will not give you any more room. In fact, you'll lose an inch or so. I have the "Buttcrack Solo". The DG seat is much better than the HD seat though. So its a tradeoff - you wind up sitting up further on the bike, but you're on a better seat.

I'm considering a set of EXILE forward controls....other mods are closer to the top of my list right now though. The riding position is fine - I'd rather get some other stuff done.

My .02 and ymmv.
