Default Limp Mode?

My riding buddy calls today and tells me his Road King (2008) just lost all throttle response while riding today!?

I was working so I wasnt there but I tell him it sounds like limp mode deal I hear about from time to time.....

So heres my question, What the hell is limp mode? Whats it for? He just cycled the ignition on and off a few times and it started working normaly so what does he need to do? Does it need to go into the mechanic?

Man this is getting to be a more and more common thing. I just had it happen to me last week.I cleared my 1511 code and pulled the connector behind left side of AC cleaned and applied dielectric grease. My bike is a 2010 Ultra with 16,000 miles and wouldn't you know the warranty ran out July 13th.This is the second time I've had this happen the first time was at 8,000 miles.

there is a hd bullitin about pin freting which is the issue and they will change out the pins to a larger diameter for less than 10 dollars depending on where you go and you can be good to go.
