Default Engine Temp According to Power Vision

Went out for a spin today around 11:00 am. Outside Temp was about 92 degrees. Pretty hot here is S. California. Ride was in light traffic with some red lights and also a quick run up the freeway for about 7 miles then back on surface streets. About 30 minutes total riding time with 2 quick stops at the store. My PV was indicating engine temp at around 282 degrees while riding and around 290 to 292 while stopped.

I have the Fuel Moto Sport Pipe (ceramic coated), recored mufflers with SE intake. Base map from Fuel Moto with about 3 Auto tune runs. Bike seems to run fairly strong with no issues other than a lot of heat coming off engine. Running Redline sync in all 3 holes. This is my first fuel injected Harley and I know they run hot but would this be considered an acceptable temp range ? Last bike was 06' Street Glide (96") with a carb and it didn't put off as much heat - at least that I could feel. I guess I'm just thinking that with the tune and header/breather and Redline it would run a bit cooler? Thanks for any feedback....

ET, aka front CHT, Sounds about right, the exhaust probably is cooler as a result of lower EGTs from enrichment, CHT is probably about the same as stock.

Yes, you're fine. You have an air-cooled engine that's designed to run hot.

its warmer here in AZ.... the other day (over 100 outside) got stuck in stop and go on freeway.. power vision indicated about 325 engine temp... but normally, I see 290ish (will look again today when I ride home in our projected 119 degree day...) Intake Temp (I also watch this) has been getting up to 130ish in this warm weather we are having...

OP, you are aware the PV is registering head temp and not oil temp. These are air/oil cooled motors and heads can get quite hot when stopped with no air flow and oil pressure down. I've seen oil temps in the 280 range when stuck in traffic jam in 90 degree heat. That did concern me a bit.

I'm seeing CHT through a PV consistently in the 270-290 range and will go up to 315 easily at traffic lights here in Vegas.

I just ordered one of these: http://www.wardspartswerks.com/cooling-fans.html, which should be here tomorrow. We'll see how that changes things.

Yes, I'm aware it's the ET and not oil temp and that these are air-cooled engines. Been riding HD for about 17 years now and have a pretty good mechanical knowledge of the bikes. As I stated, this is my first fuel-injected bike (Harley or Metric) so with the ability to get these readings from the fancy tuners now on the market (power vision) I wanted to get some comparisons and feedback to see if my bike was operating within normal ranges. HD have always been air-cooled but have not run this hot - even after getting rid of the EPA mandated changes, I feel the bike still runs much hotter than any of the carb bikes I've owned in the past. Just the nature of the game these days I guess....
