Have you guys used a bluetooth headset (I have the Scala G9) to communicate with the Harley Infotainment system? Mine pairs up find, but I can give no voice commands nor listen to music, nor make or receive calls through the system with the phone plugged in to the Infotainment system I have powered through all the settings painstakingly looking for a solution. I set the communication settings to use the head set but it doesn't respond to any VOX commands and so on. When I push the voice button on the handlebars there is no response to the head set G9. It does show a list of commands available though on the HUD on the bike. I'm perplexed...

I have not seen anyone get a Bluetooth headset to work as you want. Only the wired HD headset can be used in that manner.

S2NAZ - You will have to purchase a Bluetooth adapter from J&M Corp to get your audio into your G9. - It's a pricey piece but well worth it.

KS6C - Dan, I put 100,000 miles on the 2012 CVO. The dealer here offered my bike plus $3600 for the new 2014 limited. I asked why he wasn't writing it up already? BTW the AVC has to be set at 4 bars before you really notice it, but the volume does increase with speed. It's not as pronounced as the old HK radios were.

Legally, which Bluetooth adapter are you referring to?

Sierra Electronics are located in my home town. They carry J&M and various brand products, etc. They have the connector "legalley" refers to in stock. I was there with my 2014 FLHTK, they showed the item to me. I think it was around $150. Plugs into the Harley headset connection. This is their website - http://www.sierra-mc.com
Give them a call if you are interested, they do a huge amount of mail order business...Ask for Diana or Kevin, the owners...Excellent place to do business with - very knowledgeable...

First off, it's too bad Harley didn't implement the radio so that it supported Bluetooth head-sets natively, i.e., without all the rigamarole involved in the following...

If you're handy with electronics, you can make up a Bluetooth 'adapter' that'll do what you want. You'll need a combination BT transmitter, and receiver (the transmitter to 'hear', the receiver to 'talk'). It'll need to plug into the bike's head-set connector (7-pin female DIN plug). The plug pin-outs are available online.

I did the 'headset' part so I can listen to the stereo with my BT equipped helmet. But there seems no reason the 'talk' part won't work, too. Miccus, who manufacture the transmitter I bought, also make a receiver of similar size.

I bought a 7-pin DIN male connector, a 1/8" female socket, and put the two together. I got a Miccus Bluetooth transmitter, and plug it into the 1/8" connector. I plug the other end of the adapter into the bike's head-set connector.

You can place the BT transmitter/receiver elsewhere (than on the end of the DIN plug), e.g., on the handlebars, and run a cord from the connector to the tx/rx. You could also do a 90* adapter, and have the tx/rx run parallel to the top of the tank versus being vertical. Certainly, mounting the tx/rx unit(s) in an out-of-the-way place on the bike, and running a cord to them from the head-set connector, would be 'prettier' than what I've done.

Note: I've got a Street Glide, and the kit to add the headset connector is around 70 bucks, from HD. It plugs into the radio on one end, and is attached to the tank on the other…as shown.

I don't know what a pre-made adapter costs. Certainly, in terms of pure money, something you fashion yourself is probably going to be less expensive in $. In terms of time…store-bought is always going to be the way to go.

That's cool Alan. I may end up going that route. I can't believe HD went and built this thing w/o the ability to connect to industry standard BT headesets (Scala, uClear, etc). Just stoooopid.

I keep thinking someone will come up with a little plug that solves this problem, just plug it in and go. I haven't seen the pinouts for the DIN connector, be nice to get something that draws power from there so it wouldn't need recharging. Heck, I'd pay $$$ for a plug-and-play solution like that.

<rant> Of course the ultimate would be a SW upgrade for the unit itself that would talk to headsets LIKE EVERYONE ELSE IN THE F'IN WORLD.... HARLEY, YOU LISTENING?
</rant>

Thanks Alan, that's a good idea.

I tried again today. The Zumo 660 pairs fine to the bike, however, I get no audio. I also have an iPhone which has been paired to both the Zumo and the Bike. I turned off the iPhone bluetooth, then tried it with the phone on... while on the bike I selected "bluetooth Devices" and selected only the Zumo... I still have no audio from the Zumo. I tried it thru the plug in headset, and thru the bikes speakers, have no results....Any suggestions will be appreciated....

-There are a few other minor issues I have found playing with other settings.

I have re-installed several times. I have looked for a Set to Factory Default option, which should remove all of my user configured information.

Being a computer technician, I have already tried everything the local service techs recommend.

Still love the bike, but hoping HD will provide a newer download soon to correct some of these issues.
I am now using an iPhone 5s and listening to it connected via Bluetooth with my "infotainment" system. I received the "Playback Stopped" message the last time I was out. Tried many things while riding including trying to re Sync to no avail. Was not able to make the system work again until I reset the phone. I have yet to try any of the updates to the system as I have yet to read through a thread that there is an update that actually does work.

That's weird! I paired 2 660s - a Road Tech and a Garmin. I only tried through the speakers. You ignore failure messages (for both pairing and synch) and for me, both gave audio fine, music and GPS prompts. I paired an iPhone 3GS (didn't work too well, but no surprises there as Apple do their own thing...) and a Blackberry at the same time as the Zumo, selecting Phone for the phone, and audio for the Garmin(s) - all worked fine. I have no idea why yours should differ (I did this with 2 software revisions for the infotainment system too.)
