I don't know of any Ace's around here, but I'll try looking them up and see where one might be. I do a lot of traveling around the state for work, so there HAS to be one around somewhere.
Thanks for the tip.

Citoriplus:

Next time you're over in Albany, stop into Phillips' Ace Hardware- they're on Central Avenue in Albany, a few miles east of I-87 Exit 2E. I believe they own a few Ace Hardwares around the Capital District, but the Central Ave store is their original location.

Now, I've not been in there in almost a year, but I know it's a large Ace Hardware...if I was home, I'd swing by and give you an idea if you were to hit paydirt, but alas, I'm in the Sandbox until June. But in June, I'll check if you don't make it east!

Also, I believe Ace has (or had, until recently) a distribution center up around Glens Falls, so there are a handful around Capitaland.

Nope, just another dummy who forgot the very first rule I learned in the Army, "NEVER VOLUNTEER".
I'm just one of the foolish ones who vuolunteer their time to try to keep things running smoothly.

PS For those of you who don't know, this site is owned by an outfit called Internet Brands (I think that's the right name).
They own/operate a number of 'Brand' specific web sites like this one.

Default WARG var. on Turn Signal relocation

I relocated my turn signals on my 08 Custom to the forks. Don't really like how far they stick out and I was interested in the way WARG did his on his fatboy (p 8). I know what I want to do just not sure how to go about doing it so I am posting some pics. The first pic (if I did it right) shows the bolt at the top of my forks. Wondering, if at all possible, if I'd be able to take out bolt and attach turn signals right there. The other pic shows that there is about 1/2" of clearance between the signal and the tank. I'm sure that someone else will be able to take my idea and adapt it even better. I would just like some input before I FUBAR my bike.
Yes I know my bike is dirty, been a long year and they finally paved my road so hopefully it'll be easier to keep clean now.

mpmillion,
Very clever idea, I like it and am going to have to see if I can try it.
I like mine where they are (down at the bottom tree, but I'm not satisfied with the clamps.
You would need to get a slightly longer bolt to replace the one in there now.
I don't think you can use the original because its part of the fork tube clamping 'system'.
Haven't pulled mine apart, yet. But I believe it bottoms out on the tube itself and putting a plate (for the turn signals) under it would be like sticking a large washer in there and it will not be able to touch the tube anymore.

Default Thanks for the help....foot pegs

Citoriplus, thanks for the input. I was figuring something like that but needed an opinion from someone that knows what they are doing. Still learning the ropes but having a ball doing it. There was a post awhile back about the pineapple grenade bodies used as pegs. Maybe some expended 35mm rounds from a bradley fighting vehicle or something similar would work? I was thinking that you could get one of those and use a tube cutter about every 1/8th of an inch to cut a groove in the brass. Then see if you could find a rubber ring to put in the gash to help with grip. It might give it a killer look as well. Who knows...I'm range cadre on Ft Leonard Wood and might see if I can scrounge something up and give it a try.

Default clarification

The expended ammo I was just talking about. I meant to slip that on over the pegs not replace the pegs themselves. Not sure the exact dimensions that you would need though.

I am by no means an expert on engineering, but fortunately Harley's are generally fairly low tech machines. You just need to remember that there is generally a good reason for everything on it and use a little common sense to figure out why its there.

While I think using 35mm Bushmaster cannon shells for pegs is a great idea, I think they may be a bit too big and long for the job.
A 20mm M-61 Vulcan cannon shell or .50 cal. dummy rounds would fit better.
Both are better sized in both diameter and length, with a projectile installed, for pegs than the 35mm would be.
It shouldn't be too hard to drill and tap or drill and epoxy a threaded rod (made from a grade 5 or 8 bolt) into the base of a dummy round to fit the peg mounts fairly easily.
