Midgard, your a brave man painting bike parts that way.
Not sure I would have the guts or patience to do that much of the bike without taking everything apart first.
Nice job, I like it.
Thnx it was a bit nerve racking lol

I like the exposed filter look as well, I just keep a fliter rain sleeve in the solo bag in case it starts to pour.
Shouldn't need it; I've rode in monsoons with mine. But if you stop and it loads up with water, you'll have to start it and stand there with the wick twisted at about 2200 rpm for a while until the engine sucks it all out. Cure: big pack of shower caps from the dollar store. Use 'em when washing it too.
Just made me some templates out of cardboard and programmed the shapes for the water jet, and found some 301 stainless .030 thk that was in the recycle bin. Used 3m double sided tape to stick them babys on.
so I got a DXF file is anybody wants it for personal use.
Yeaaaaahhhh...$12 for the stainless, and what, $40k for the water jet?
The rest of us non-RUBs will have to use the redneck torch - a cutoff wheel in a 4-1/2" angle grinder! I actually will want to do this mod, especially since I have the plate stock and SS polishes up like chrome!
That will make me faster.
BTW, I'm sure you're using your boss's rig there...

Okay, here are a couple for everyone. The first one I detailed in this thread: https://www.hdforums.com/forum/softa...ore-after.html where I picked up some dye and sealer to recondition my saddle bags and seat skirt. One addition to that thread is that I came back with neatsfoot oil to add some of the oils lost through the years. All inclusive the cost was about $10 using my business account at Tandy Leather. Probably be $14 or so otherwise.
Next one isn't really a DIY however it was cheap. I managed to get these mirrors off Craigslist for $23 instead of the $86 plus tax they would have been at the dealer. (Mostly a reminder to watch for those cheap deals that come along once in awhile)
This one is an actual DIY cheap mod. (Keychain medallion) I ran across these keychains at Autozone the other day when I was there. I actually grabbed two of them. $2.99 each or something like that.
With one of them I took the ring off and then grabbed a grinder and took the tab off for the ring. I then went to the sissy bar and pulled the center pad bolt out and ground the rounded portion off that was sticking out past the surface and then reinstalled it. (this was so the keychain/medallion would sit flat) I then grabbed a tube of silicone off the shelf (3m double sided tape would work also) and put some on the back of it and placed it in the back center of the sissy bar. I threw a couple of pieces of tape on it for an hour or so to give the silicone a chance to set up. Here is the result:

Yea working here for 17 years and being a programmer does have some perks, also when you make stuff for the owner is pretty cool also.
I do own an work a side welding business were I have to use the "red neck" tools, and thanks for the RUB comment that is about as far off as you can get if ya knew me.
Cheap and interesting mod. This is a graphics "wrap" kit for stock softail oil tanks. I suppose if you have black and want chrome this is probably the cheapest and easiest method. They also have carbon fiber and other colors.
