50mpg??? You must be going down a lot of hills. How do ya do it?
The motor makes over 100ft lbs of Torque at 2100 rpm with a max of 137 at 4000 rpm and never falling below 120 to 6500 rpm. The motor just idles around. The first feedback I get from new builds is WOW the fuel milage!
The Hill thing is good and we have a lot of hills in VA. But you got to go up them before you can go down. Thanks, George
I've added the 103 kit with SE211 cams, V&H BSS, PC V & Autotune, Heavy Breather filter and I'm getting 86HP & 94TQ.
The bike runs beautifully at all speeds now (and is a lot cooler) but I'm a little disappointed on the figures.
There seems to be a big difference between the two dynos that it has been on. When it was still a SERT bike it was dynoed by two different tuners and one had it at 87HP & 101TQ and then on the other dyno, before the PCv & autotune is was doing 83HP and 91TQ.
Now it is PC V with autotune is 86HP & 94TQ. The PC v and a proper tune before the autotune was fitted made the bike a lot easier to ride and more responsive but clearly different dynos can produce different results. My current tuner said it was something to do with the default software that comes with the system, which overstates.
Anyway just interest to know if anyone else has had a similar experience withe their 2008 Fatboy.
I've been through a few exhaust systems and made other changes, so here are some dyno results that might interest someone:
Basic info: Stock 88 c.i. on an '06 FLSTCI; K&N air filter; Power Commander III.
Rush slip-ons, 2" baffle: hp 71.1; tq 74.3
V&H Big Shot Longs: hp 71.5; tq 75.5
D&D Fatcat: hp 74.4; tq 77.3
Added HQ 0034 cams (stayed with chain-driven): hp 82.7; tq 84.7
I had been thinking about more cubic inches, but this set-up is perfect for the kind of long-distance touring I do. Gas mileage took a serious hit with the cams -- running a steady 75 mph I'm averaging about 32 mpg. Plugs are good -- not running rich.
Great numbers & mileage! Can I get low end TQ w/that!
Hello Put! Good numbers! This spring, John Sachs put together a 103" for me (07 FXSTS) and we got 113 Hp, 109 Tq. very nice, flat torque curve from 2200 to 6200. We used Sachs heads w/1.90" intakes, decked for 120ccp, Andrews TW55's, Forged flattops, Kury 57 intake with Hi Flows, TTS Master tuner, and a Fat Cat 2 into 1. Widest torque curve I've seen, and it really runs nice, feels "just right". Shut down lots of locals with it! -I just bought a newmoto-trike conversion using a new 2008 96" Ultra w/ cruise, Trailer hitch and all the goodies. I plan to pull a trailer, lots of luggage weight, and a skinny girlfriend. Gearing is stock. It's a little weak, and I am beginning another 103 build for it now. I am lookining for great low and midrange torque, and need the motor to behave from 1800 rpm up. So far on the parts list are a pair of SE MVA CNC ported heads w/ 2.120 intakes, SE forged 10.5 to 1 pistons made to match the combustion chambers, HD 103 Jugs and SE forgrd 10.5 to1's, Vance and Hines true duals (a 2 into 1 won't fit the trike), and a Pro Super Tuner with SW and cableing so I can dial it in on my PC after each 15 minute initial run. I'm a fan of the TTS Master Tuner, but thought I'd try my hand at tuning a Super Tuner just for fun. Bad move? Also a SE Big Twin Compensator, and lots of heavier than stock components.I need some help with the Cam. I am set up for .660 lift. With the broad Tq. curve I got with the Andrews 55's, I'm tempted to use them, but I need tractability below 2000 rpm. -Any chance I could see your Dyno (is it published here?), and what cams are you using? Also pistons, porting, and intake to get such Great mileage? My FXSTS only gets 30 mpg, but runs GREAT, and mileage is not important for its purposes. I would like to get your input, and input from anyone that has advise on getting great torque for this build. I have 11 to 1 pistons available as an option, but I want a reliable engine. It's getting a La Nale engineering cylinder head cooling fan, oil cooler, and a Baker's +1 Quart pan to keep the heat down. Also I have a 30 tooth primary pully available (2 teeth under stock). Know where I can find a 31 tooth? Nobody seems to make one. For cams, so far I have looked at SE's new 259E cam for FI motors (timing intake 19/47. Ex. 58/12, and .579 lift). I have a friend that's a Harley Mechanic, and he loves this cam for low end torque. This seems like a lot of cam to me, and the intake closes so late it concerns me. The SE 255 cam has GREAT low end with intake 6/25, exh 48/7, lift .559, and I have ran this cam before. BUT, it's a EPA smog cam and DIES above 4300 RPM, wasting the potential of the motor. I have looked at small cams such as Andrews 26 and SE 204 ( In. 22/34, ex. 52/8, lift .508), but again I wouldn't get the potential of the motor. I have friends that have ran a SE204 w/ 1.725 to 1 rockers for a net of .539 lift, and with this small cams short duration, they got a lot of torque, but it's still a small cam in my opinion. Crane's HTC290-2 also looks greatat 18/42 and 46/22 with .570 lift, has anybody ran one? Their HTC296-2 (20/46, 52/22, .619 lift) has been recommended as well, but has the same late intake close as the SE259E. I have not looked into Woods or Head Quarter's cams, never ran one. That's my 2 cents worth, Please comment, one and all, I may start a new thread on this for other trike owners. Should prove to be interesting and beneficial! Thanks . . .

Stoood,
I don't think throwig a lot of money at this and buying big heads for this is the answer. You need to think Dump Truck. 4.5 inch stroke with a 3.825 bore. 106 C.I.D. The stock valves with the 06 and up raised port heads with a opened up combustion chamber. 10.6 to 1 with a flat top piston.
You don't want anything too bussy like a HTCC. The SE-258 would be my cam of choice with the intake open at 26. Stay wit the O. E. M. throttle body 50mm and a exhaust system that is stepped. If you can make it run at 32 to 34 total advance ignition timing you will have a motor that makes 100 Ft Lbs at 2200 and stays above that all the way. That is my 2 cents. Thanks, George
my dad just got the motor built in his 04 road king custom and put down 129hp and 135tq to the wheel. 116" motor, ported heads, not sure about the cam, welded flywheels cause they shifted on the two previous motors built by gengras harley in east hartford Connecticut
I've got a 103 inch kit, Woods cams, SE 50mm throttle body, Zippers ac, 2-1 Fat Cat exhaust, dyno says 113hp, 113 ft-lbs torque. Built and tuned by Reno HD. Runs strong, especially with the 30 tooth pully. I've got the paperwork but don't know how to post it.
